Violeta Parra (1917- 1967) ha contribuido a la divulgación de la música popular chilena con maravillosas canciones que han sido versionadas por muchísimos cantantes en el mundo.

En recuerdo del día de su nacimiento el 4 de octubre es celebrado en Chile como “El Día de la música y de los músicos chilenos”. El día 6 de octubre de 2015 se inauguró en Santiago el “Museo Violeta Parra” que alberga sus arpilleras, óleos y otras obras exhibiéndose 23 de ellas, contando con salas para actividades culturales, talleres y conferencias.

Cuando se enteró de su muerte, Pablo Neruda expresó: «De cantar a lo humano y a lo divino, voluntariosa hiciste tu silencio, sin otra enfermedad que la tristeza>>
