Algunos historiadores apuntan a que las raíces del bolero latinoamericano se hallan en el denominado bolero español, llevado a Cuba por los españoles a finales del siglo XVIII y fusionándose con ritmos locales. Los especialistas en folklore hablan del trovador cubano Pepe Sánchez (1857-1918) como el verdadero creador del género, considerando como primer bolero su tema “Me entristeces mujer”, llamado en principio “Tristezas”, compuesta alrededor de 1883.
Some historians suggest that the roots of the Latin American bolero lie in the so-called Spanish bolero, brought to Cuba by the Spanish at the end of the 18th century and merging with local rhythms. Folklore specialists speak of the Cuban troubadour Pepe Sánchez (1857-1918) as the true creator of the genre, considering as his first bolero his song “Me entristeces mujer”, originally called “Tristezas”, composed around 1883.
