El Jurado de la Edición 1993 deliberaba sobre el nombramiento del premio al escritor consolidado por la provincia de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Y alguien propuso al escritor de Guía de Gran Canaria. El Jurado era el siguiente:

Creo recordar, y es lo más probable, que nuestro Ministro no estaba en la reunión. Todos los que estaban presentes acogieron con entusiasmo la propuesta de nuestro poeta de Guía, pero varios comentaron que el escritor no aceptaría el premio, que por su singular modestia y humildad no aceptaría un reconocimiento del que no se creería merecedor.

Escuchaba atentamente a las personalidades que debatían la propuesta pensando en que se pondría sobre la mesa otro nombramiento, pero María Dolores de la Fe, amiga de Manuel González Sosa, convenció al resto del jurado para que le permitieran hablar con el escritor: se comprometia a convencerle.

Era tal la ilusión que le hacía la entrega de ese premio al poeta guiénse que, a pesar de que la mayoría del jurado manifestaba que no aceptaría el galardón, consiguió que le dieran unos días para hacer el intento.

Unos días después María Dolores me pidió que comunicara a todos que Manuel González Sosa había aceptado.

Treinta años después, Sergio Aguiar, investigador y archivero de Guía de Gran Canaria, presentó su libro MANUEL GONZALEZ SOSA, EL POETA SECRETO DE GUIA DE GRAN CANARIA.

Gracias María Dolores de la Fe por hacer honor a tu apellido, por tu elegantísimo y canario humor, por regalar continuamente tu sonrisa y tu alegría, contagiosa y permanentemente viva.

Gracias a tí se dió a conocer más al escritor, al poeta poco publicado por decisión propia, al escritor humano y humilde que, sentado en una silla, con una sonrisa abierta, te escuchaba desvelar con tu gracia su pequeños secretos.

Y otra anécdota más: El día de la entrega de premios tenías un fuerte resfriado que te pedía que te quedaras en casa. Al llegar al Hotel Reina Isabel me dijiste que por nada del mundo te perderías ese momento. Y además el jurado te había pedido que hicieras la presentación del galardonado, y lo tenías todo preparado.

Cuando estabas terminando tus ilusionadas palabras la afonía te impidió seguir dirigiéndote a los invitados y a tu poeta secreto. Le pediste a Jorge Alemán que leyera, que continuara, que ya no te salía la voz. Un aplauso dió paso a la voz más bonita de Canarias sustituyendo al hilo de voz que te quedaba.

I seem to recall, and it is most likely, that our Minister was not at the meeting. All those present enthusiastically welcomed the proposal of our poet from Guía, but several commented that the writer would not accept the prize, that because of his unique modesty and humility he would not accept a recognition he did not think he deserved.

I listened attentively to the personalities debating the proposal, thinking that another nomination would be put on the table, but María Dolores de la Fe, a friend of Manuel González Sosa, convinced the rest of the jury to allow her to speak to the writer: she undertook to convince him.

She was so excited about the awarding of this prize to the Guiénse poet that, despite the fact that the majority of the jury said he would not accept the award, he managed to get them to give him a few days to give it a try.
A few days later María Dolores asked me to inform everyone that Manuel González Sosa had accepted.

Thirty years later, Sergio Aguiar, researcher and archivist of Guía de Gran Canaria, presented his book MANUEL GONZALEZ SOSA, EL POETA SECRETO DE GUIA DE GRAN CANARIA (MANUEL GONZALEZ SOSA, THE SECRET POET OF GUIA DE GRAN CANARIA).

Thank you María Dolores de la Fe for living up to your surname, for your very elegant and canarian humour, for always giving us your smile and your joy, contagious and permanently alive.

Thanks to you, the writer became better known, the poet who was little published by his own choice, the human and humble writer who, sitting in a chair, with an open smile, listened to you reveal his little secrets with your grace.
And one more anecdote: On the day of the prize-giving ceremony you had a bad cold that told you to stay at home. When you arrived at the Hotel Reina Isabel you told me that you wouldn’t miss that moment for anything in the world. And besides, the jury had asked you to present the winner, and you had everything ready.

As you were finishing your excited words, aphonia prevented you from continuing to address the guests and your secret poet. You asked Jorge Alemán to read, to continue, because you could no longer get your voice out. A round of applause gave way to the most beautiful voice of the Canary Islands replacing the thread of voice you had left.
