Alberto Santana Darias, su promotor, se incrusta en la sensibilidad canaria con una productora con la que pretende «abarcar todo un espacio cultural, social, humano y grancanario repleto de semblanzas y de vida en la dinámica histórico-popular de Gran Canaria«. Su estreno será en el espacio cultural Jesús Arencibia».

Marzo fue el mes que vio nacer la productora cultural Al Alba Producciones, creada y dirigida por el filólogo Alberto Santana. Santana, que fuera Director Comercial de la reconocida empresa insular Olympia Canarias durante 15 años, entiende este nuevo proyecto cultural como el resultado final de un proceso vital siempre ligado a las artes. Licenciado en Filología Hispánica por la ULPGC, Santana fue también cantautor a finales de los años 90, compartiendo escenario con algunas figuras emblemáticas de la canción de autor canaria, como Luis Quintana o Daniel Cano. Lector devoto, amante irreductible del cine clásico y la música, pudo vivir la semilla de la gestión cultural al lado de su padre, Agustín Santana, Director General de Olympia Canarias y hombre con una sensibilidad cultural muy marcada. Agustín Santana fue responsable, entre otras muchas iniciativas, de los Premios Montblanc a la Cultura en Canarias, que hace algunas décadas premiaron el talento de jóvenes talentos de ambas provincias canarias.

Ahora, a los 47 años, Al Alba Producciones nace como el resultado natural de toda una vida de pasión por la cultura. El propio nombre de la productora es un homenaje a Luis Eduardo Aute, autor de la célebre canción “Al alba”, uno de los grandes himnos de la música en español del siglo XX. Igualmente, insiste Santana en que el propósito esencial de la Cultura debe ser el de alumbrar, más aún en tiempos en los que las Humanidades y el pensamiento crítico han sido arrinconados

Afirma Santana que su productora pondrá el foco especialmente en la promoción de actividades musicales, literarias, cinematográficas o gastronómicas, pero también advierte de que su intención es estar abierto a cualquier otra disciplina. En sus primeros pasos al frente de Al Alba Producciones, ha dedicado dos meses a reunirse con artistas insulares, con la intención de escuchar en primera persona las necesidades del sector. El clamor en este sentido es unánime: la producción cultural sin circuito ni vías de distribución, está abocada al silencio.

Precisamente para combatir esta tendencia ha nacido esta pequeña productora cultural, que ya ha podido cerrar su primer evento, a celebrar el 2 de junio en el Espacio Cultural Jesús Arencibia. Esta fecha servirá para estrenar el proyecto musical “Del barrio al escenario”, con el que Santana pretende acercar la ceremonia cultural al ciudadano. En la mañana del día 2, el célebre cantautor Víctor Lemes invitará desde las calles de Tamaraceite, guitarra en mano, a que los vecinos se acerquen esa misma noche al Jesús Arencibia a disfrutar de su concierto. Santana está trabajando en trasladar este proyecto a otros municipios de la isla, con la intención de ofrecer un punto de encuentro entre nuestros cantautores, hijos de la poesía, y la ciudadanía.

Al margen de “Del barrio al escenario”, cuenta Santana que está trabajando en un proyecto en torno a la figura de Galdós, así como ha solicitado la programación del monólogo teatral “El barbudo que quiso volar Génova” en la Sala Insular de Teatro y el Teatro Guiniguada. El monólogo, escrito e interpretado por el autor grancanario Jorge Fuentes, estuvo representándose en Madrid hace dos años, con buenos resultados de crítica y público. La obra teatral, inspirada en hechos reales, es una descarnada reflexión sobre la degradación del individuo ante un sistema podrido e implacable que le empequeñece.

También nos cuenta Alberto Santana que ha acordado colaborar con Yul Ballesteros y su productora en la promoción de sus últimos trabajos discográficos. Ballesteros es uno de los más importantes y reconocidos guitarristas de jazz de nuestro país, cuyo último trabajo fusiona el folclore canario con el jazz de forma magistral.

Hay otros muchos proyectos en desarrollo que Santana irá presentando a las distintas corporaciones de la isla y que a buen seguro pronto podremos disfrutar en la zona sur de Gran Canaria.

Alberto Santana es un personaje inquieto, luchador y apasionado grancanario. Y que, una vez más, ha apuesta por tomar el pulso al escenario musical, social, humano, recreativo y popular que se bate entre las esencias más populares y humanas de la isla.

Tras largo tiempo de reflexión y de reflexiones, consigo mismo, y de la mano de significativos personajes de Gran Canaria, Alberto, corredor de fondo por los escenarios de sus pasiones, arrancando en la panorámica cultural, inicia una carrera y un reto. La carrera es, claro, larga; el reto, por supuesto, intenso. De no ser así, lo más probable es que no hubiera cogido aire y entrenarse y entregarse a fondo repleto de escenarios y con un firme deseo: Replantearse el cubrir unos escenarios que presentan manifiestas lagunas en Gran Canaria.

Pero que, por supuesto, tiene un objetivo tan claro como es el de dinamizar un nuevo espacio cultural, social, musical, popular y humano de Gran Canaria. Donde hay, dice, claros espacios pero que se encuentran necesitados de los compases y de la marcha de productores.

Por eso Alberto Santana se ha revestido con ese impulso generador de motivaciones. Guitarra en mano, a caballo entre senderos musicales, con figuras como las de Galdós, con la recreación de unas calles, de un barrio, de unas secuencias, de unos personajes que transcienden entre lo cercano, lo popular, lo afectivo… Y, más allá, el programa que nos anuncia Alberto Santana ya revolotea y nos hace arder en deseos de que corra el reloj y encontrarnos con sus personales, con sus amigos, con sus ideas y con el ejemplo y los frutos de trabajo.

Las Palmas de Canaria se vestirá de lujo el 2 de junio. Cuando se deslice el telón y de comienzo la representación de la obra «Del barrio al escenario«. Sonarán las ovaciones, reconoceremos la hondura de las críticas por parte de los entendidos, Alberto se emocionará entre el panorama de sus escenas y continuará su camino, sin detenerse lo más mínimo, camino de que se represente «El barbudo que quiso volar Génova«. Después llegará una figura como la que representa Yul Ballesteros fusionando, con una hondura impresionante, que enriquece el alma de la pasión, la fusión del jazz con el folklore canario.

Gracias, querido Alberto, por este arranque tan vital propio, solo, de los elegidos. Y, como dicen los gondolieri, al incrustar el remo en las aguas, «Avantiiiiiiii«.

March saw the birth of the cultural production company Al Alba Producciones, created and directed by the philologist Alberto Santana. Santana, who was the Commercial Director of the renowned island company Olympia Canarias for 15 years, understands this new cultural project as the final result of a vital process always linked to the arts. With a degree in Hispanic Philology from the ULPGC, Santana was also a singer-songwriter at the end of the 90s, sharing the stage with some emblematic figures of Canarian singer-songwriters, such as Luis Quintana and Daniel Cano. Devoted reader, irreducible lover of classic cinema and music, he was able to experience the seed of cultural management at the side of his father, Agustín Santana, General Director of Olympia Canarias and a man with a very marked cultural sensitivity. Agustín Santana was responsible, among many other initiatives, for the Montblanc Awards for Culture in the Canary Islands, which some decades ago rewarded the talent of young talents from both Canary Islands provinces.

Now, at the age of 47, Al Alba Producciones was born as the natural result of a lifetime of passion for culture. The very name of the production company is a tribute to Luis Eduardo Aute, author of the famous song «Al alba», one of the great anthems of 20th century Spanish music. Santana also insists that the essential purpose of culture should be to enlighten, even more so in times when the humanities and critical thought have been cornered.

Santana affirms that his production company will focus especially on the promotion of musical, literary, cinematographic and gastronomic activities, but he also warns that his intention is to be open to any other discipline. In his first steps at the helm of Al Alba Producciones, he has spent two months meeting with island artists, with the intention of listening first-hand to the needs of the sector. The clamour in this sense is unanimous: cultural production without a circuit or distribution channels is doomed to silence.

It is precisely to combat this trend that this small cultural production company was born, which has already been able to close its first event, to be held on 2 June at the Jesús Arencibia Cultural Space. This date will serve to launch the musical project «From the neighbourhood to the stage», with which Santana aims to bring the cultural ceremony closer to the citizens. On the morning of the 2nd, the famous singer-songwriter Víctor Lemes will invite the residents of Tamaraceite, guitar in hand, to come to Jesús Arencibia to enjoy his concert. Santana is working on transferring this project to other municipalities on the island, with the intention of offering a meeting point between our singer-songwriters, children of poetry, and the public.

In addition to «Del barrio al escenario», Santana says that he is working on a project based on the figure of Galdós, and has requested the programming of the theatrical monologue «El barbudo que quiso volar Génova» (The bearded man who wanted to blow up Genoa) at the Sala Insular de Teatro and the Teatro Guiniguada. The monologue, written and performed by the Gran Canarian author Jorge Fuentes, was staged in Madrid two years ago, to good critical and public acclaim. The play, inspired by real events, is a stark reflection on the degradation of the individual in the face of a rotten and implacable system that diminishes him.

Alberto Santana also tells us that he has agreed to collaborate with Yul Ballesteros and his production company in the promotion of his latest recordings. Ballesteros is one of the most important and renowned jazz guitarists in our country, whose latest work masterfully fuses Canarian folklore with jazz.
There are many other projects in development that Santana will be presenting to the different corporations on the island and which we will surely soon be able to enjoy in the southern part of Gran Canaria.

Guitar in hand, straddling musical paths, with figures like those of Galdós, with the recreation of some streets, of a neighbourhood, of some sequences, of some characters that transcend between the close, the popular, the affective… And, beyond that, the programme that Alberto Santana announces to us already flutters and makes us burn with the desire for the clock to run and to meet his people, his friends, his ideas and the example and fruits of his work.

Las Palmas de Canaria will be dressed in luxury on 2 June. When the curtain slides back and the performance of the play «Del barrio al escenario» begins. The ovations will ring out, we will recognise the depth of the criticism from the connoisseurs, Alberto will be moved by the panorama of his scenes and will continue on his way, without the slightest pause, on the way to the performance of «El barbudo que quiso volar Génova». Then will come a figure like the one represented by Yul Ballesteros fusing, with an impressive depth, which enriches the soul of passion, the fusion of jazz with Canarian folklore.
