Before yesterday we were reviewing the legacy of The Beatles. Today we have one of the great titles of Gicomo Puccini, Tosca. Aristides Jaen sent us the aria «Vittoria, Vittoria», with Franco Corelli in 1959. Then we are going to enjoy three other wonderful arias from this magnificent opera.
Breve Argumento
1.800, invasión de Napoleón a Italia. En Roma el Pintor Mario Cavarodossi, revolucionario y antimonárquico, está enamorado de la cantante soprano Floria Tosca. Scarpia, Jefe de la Policía y hombre de nula moral, enamorado también de Tosca, para encontrar a un fugitivo tortura a Mario y lo encarcela en el Castillo Sant’Angelo. Al final Scarpia engaña a los dos y ejecuta a Mario, y cuando Tosca se da cuenta del engaño y del asesinato de su amado, se mata tirándose de una torre del Castillo de Sänt’Angelo.
Brief argument
1800, Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. In Rome, the painter Mario Cavarodossi, revolutionary and anti-monarchist, is in love with the soprano singer Floria Tosca. Scarpia, Chief of Police and a man of moral nullity, also in love with Tosca, to find a fugitive tortures Mario and imprisons him in the Sant’Angelo Castle. In the end Scarpia deceives the two and executes Mario, and when Tosca realizes the deceit and murder of his beloved, he kills himself by jumping from a tower of the Castle of Sänt’Angelo.
