(English at the end)

NO VALE

Te digo que no vale

meter el sueño azul bajo las sábanas,

pasar de largo,

no saber nada,

INGLES

Russia’s war against Ukraine is a return to humanity’s worst recent past. Between 1914 and 1945 in the two world wars fifty million people died, because of inhuman dictators who did not see people in others.  One hundred years later another dictator uses the same practices of the German monster, to annex territories of other countries, to become stronger, to have more power.

It is really worrying that human beings repeat the killing of children, young people, old people; right now, at this very moment, and televised for all to see.  And the worst thing is that there are many other leaders of countries who, with other practices, seek the same as the new Russian monster. To perpetuate themselves in power, no matter what, and this is happening all over the world. Weak democracies and weak governments, which are gradually turning into covert dictators who do not kill directly with firearms but with partisan decisions that favour only their power group.

Yesterday we have seen in the Spanish Parliament an example of the use and abuse of votes to achieve partisan objectives above the laws. A parliament uncouth to the point of infinity, shameful, unworthy of a democratic and advanced country.

Therefore generalised, in all countries, also in ours. And also in the Canary Islands.

Corruption has always existed, but nowadays it has reached a generalised level that puts at risk the efficient management of resources and the empowerment of the rich over the most disadvantaged. It has become so widespread that it is seen as part of the culture, and corrupt people vote for the corrupt in elections, favouring impunity, inequality and killing ethical and moral values. And we already have covert dictators all over the world, in all countries, in Spain and also in the Canaries.

The Canaries are already the poorest region in Spain, we have already beaten Andalucia and Extremadura. And we have earned it, because of the ineptitude of the rulers and because of corruption. Education, curricula, history, philosophy and the humanities in general are not important, only the perpetuation in power of those who have been, those who are and those who will be.

The alleged case of the politician Tania Naya and her party of more than 200,000 euros paid for by all taxpayers is in the news right now. Illegal buildings are being destroyed in Teguise, in Santa Brígida, and elsewhere in the Canaries. But let’s look at just one example of the thousands that have occurred throughout the Canary Islands, and let’s go to the south of Gran Canaria.

It is 1986 and the Maspalomas International Golf Course is being developed. A Basque businessman buys Plot G of Sector 3, which we see in the photograph, with a possible occupancy of 30%, and ending his plot in a circular corner overlooking the Maspalomas.

There are two more circles of adjoining plots, which also overlook the promenade of the Maspalomas ravine, and all this space is destined in the General Plan for public gardens.

But the Basque businessman, when he started to build, fenced off the circular area destined for a public garden, left it within his plot and built a tennis court.

And in 1996, the Town Hall of San Bartolomé de Tirajana accepted the delimitation of the plot with the private tennis court inside it, built on the surface of the public garden and stolen by the Basque businessman, and accepted it as good in the photo below of the Plan Parcial del Campo Internacional. The tennis court can be seen inside plot G.

The other two entrepreneurs, of the other two circular plots destined for public gardens, have respected everyone’s land. But instead of denouncing this abuse, they decided to take advantage of it and appropriate what belongs to others, what belongs to everyone, and fence off these spaces. If the neighbour steals, so do I.

And in this current photo we can see the three circles destined for a public garden. The one on the right has been converted into a tennis court, the one on the left into a garden used as a storage room, and the one in the centre was the most daring: he built a bungalow (you can see it peeking over the attached fence).

Tennis court in one, bungalow built in another, garden and storage room in the third.

In Bungalow Campo de Golf, where I have my bungalow, where this theft from the public, from everyone, to be used privately, started in 1986, more illegal constructions have been made.

The promoters acted illegally and the officials of the Town Hall of San Bartolomé de Tirajana did not demand that they be brought back into line with the law. Shamelessness and corruption.

Current state of the three circles mentioned above. Tennis court, chalet and fenced garden.

Today, where all the users of Maspalomas would have a beautiful public space, with large promenades and gardens, with benches for reading, exercise equipment for the elderly and children’s play areas, what we have today is a tennis court where a private company charges a fee for playing, an abandoned garden used as a storage room, and a private villa.

This is just one example. The Canaries have become the poorest region in Spain thanks to inept and corrupt leaders who allow this larceny, who squander everyone’s money on their private interests.

Our land is an original, unique place, with natural beauty that we must respect, and Canarian civil society must fight to defend and conserve the values inherited from our grandparents and ancestors; open, peaceful, honest, hard-working people, people who had to overcome many shortages and needs due to isolation and lack of resources; who fought very hard to leave us the best thing we have: the aridity and beauty of our landscapes. We cannot let them down by allowing unconscionable excesses and abuses.

NOT VALID

I tell you it’s no good
to put the blue dream under the sheets,
to pass by,
to know nothing,
to turn a blind eye to what happens,
to keep the thirst for stars under lock and key.
I tell you and I repeat that it’s no good

Condiciones incomprensibles all….
